Most ducks and geese are on the move in the spring, migrating for more northern latitudes with nesting on their minds. Wood ducks are an exception and stay in Texas to raise their young. This week they’re scouting for nest sites! The birds are cavity nesters and seek out trees or poles hollowed out by pileated woodpeckers to deposit their eggs. These are among the most colorfully striking birds in North America. They were seen by paddlers on Armand Bayou just last week.
